A collaborative, white-glove process designed to bring your vision to life—down to the last detail.
Every NIBA rug begins the same way your projects do—with a vision. Whether you’re working from a fully developed concept or a single point of inspiration, we collaborate with you to translate your ideas into a custom piece that fits the space perfectly—in scale, color, and material.
We begin by understanding the room, the design intent and the role the rug will play within the space. Designers may share floor plans, inspiration images, sketches, artwork, color references or an existing NIBA design to customize. Together, we establish the desired size, shape, palette, performance needs and overall creative direction.
Our design team translates the initial concept into detailed digital artwork. This may involve adapting an existing pattern, creating an entirely original composition or digitizing a designer’s hand-drawn artwork. Initial renderings allow us to explore placement, proportion, scale and border treatments before refining the design through collaborative feedback.
Once the composition takes shape, we refine its color, texture and dimensional character. Colors are selected using physical yarn poms, while fibers and pile treatments are chosen to achieve the desired appearance and performance. Wool, silk-like fibers, cut pile, loop pile and carved details can be combined to bring depth and movement to the design.
Every element can be adjusted to balance design intent, durability, construction and budget. We may refine the border, simplify or enlarge details, modify the fiber blend, adjust pile treatments or recommend an alternative construction. The goal is to preserve the character of the design while creating the right solution for the project.
Before full production begins, a physical strike-off is created to evaluate the selected colors, fibers, pile heights and design details. The sample allows the designer to see and feel how the rug will translate from artwork into textile. Any final adjustments are made before the design and specifications are approved for production.
Following approval, the final artwork and construction specifications are prepared for production. The rug is handcrafted by skilled artisans according to the approved design, dimensions, colors and materials. Floor plans and scaled visualizations can also be used to confirm proportion, placement and alignment within the finished room.
The final result is more than a finished rug. It becomes part of the architecture of the room-bringing together furniture, art, and atmosphere to create a space that feels complete. We are grateful for the designers and architects who trust us to bring their visions to life. We invite you to view this one of a kind project HERE.
What you see is what you get.
Bring us your vision—we’ll take care of the rest.
Bring on the cozy! 🐑 🐑 🐑
October is the start of all things warm, layered and deliciously decadent—and nothing says cozy quite like a shag rug.
Sink your toes into alpaca, silk, mohair, cashmere and wools of the finest caliber. Carve the pile to create pattern and dimension, or let those long, luxurious fibers fall naturally and do all the talking.
Plush, tactile, completely custom. However you want your shag, we can make it happen.

Seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and spending a few days with the New England design community — exactly what we hoped for. 🫶🏼
Our NIBA New England Open House was designed to be more than a look at what’s new. We invited designers and their teams to step out of the office, spend time with Beth, Sheralyn and the NIBA team, and really dig into the things that make specifying a custom rug easier — from construction and fibers to customization, problem solving and the many ways we can support a project from start to finish.
Sometimes the best education happens when you can get away from your desk, ask questions, touch everything and have a real conversation.
A huge thank you to the designers, editors and friends who stopped by and made the week such a success. We loved having you.
And New England…we’ll be back. Stay tuned for our next NIBA Open House dates!!

20 years in New England called for a proper Boston celebration! 🥂
Two decades of projects, partnerships, problem-solving and friendships with the New England design community and this week, Beth and Sheralyn had the chance to celebrate it all with a beautiful evening at Raffles Boston.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to the designers, architects and industry friends who have trusted NIBA with their projects over the years. Those relationships are at the heart of how we work.
NIBA has always taken a more personal, consultative approach to rugs. We intentionally work with fewer clients so we can be more involved — helping navigate everything from fiber and construction to color, scale, customization, installation and all the details in between.
Think of Beth and the NIBA team as an extension of your studio. Bring us the room, the challenge or even just the beginning of an idea, and let us take the rug portion off your plate.
Boston, thank you for an incredible week — and for 20+ years of designing together.
