Rugs in Real Spaces

Design Something Custom

Every project begins with a conversation.

Think these are all different colors? Spoiler alert: they’re not!

Same dye. Completely different result.

One of the biggest misconceptions in custom rugs is that color is color. In reality, the fiber plays a huge role in how a dye is absorbed.

In this video, Beth walks through a series of samples—all dyed the same lavender color—to show how wool, silk, linen, and other fibers each create a completely different final look.

It’s a great reminder that when you’re customizing a rug, changing the fiber can change the color just as much as changing the dye itself.

That’s why we always recommend reviewing a strike-off before production. It’s the best way to see exactly how your selected fiber and color will work together before your rug is made.
Every custom rug starts somewhere! 🌈 💭

Sometimes it’s a painting. Sometimes it’s a fabric. And sometimes… it’s a child’s doodle.

Child’s Play was inspired by the kind of carefree creativity we often overlook—the spontaneous lines, scribbles, and imagination that remind us the best ideas come from unexpected places!

That’s the beauty of custom. Inspiration can come from anywhere, and we’ll help turn it into something beautifully made, completely unique, and entirely yours.

Why go in stock when custom is this much fun?

In this reel, Beth explains one of the beautiful characteristics of hand-knotted Persian rugs: the natural striation that comes from the way the wool is hand-combed, spun, and dyed before weaving ever begins. It’s those subtle variations that give each rug its depth, movement, and one-of-a-kind character.

Using Kochi from our Taj Collection as an example, she also shares the inspiration behind the design—a modern interpretation of India’s rich artistic heritage, from intricate henna patterns to timeless architecture.

As you begin selecting rugs for your next project, understanding how different rug-making techniques affect texture, color, and overall appearance can make all the difference. We’re always happy to walk you through the options and help you find the construction that’s right for your design.
